When the story of the Children at Gogo Nhiwatiwa’s home in Mt Hampden, Zimbabwe was aired on ZBC, a number of people reached out to Citizens Initiative with the intention to help. This story touched many hearts and people have been wondering what they can do to make the lives of these children better especially given the current threats of covid-19.

As Citizens Initiative we feel strongly that these children deserve decent access to basic needs like shelter, food and water. Our purpose is always to channel individual and institutional support towards focused and sustainable interventions that help improve lives. We therefore would like to again rally people towards raising at least $30 000 to build a 5-10 room/dormitory  home for these kids.

What we are going to build is dependent on what we will raise. Ideally we need land  close to a school and also a clinic where we can build a home, furnish it with bunk beds, drill a borehole and if possible provide solar power for cooking and lighting.

WHAT CAN INDIVIDUALS DO?

These are really tough times for everybody, however are appealing for those who can spare $10, $20 whatever you can. If enough people are touched and moved to donate we will be able to collectively provide impactful assistance to these wonderful young  kids.

WHAT CAN ORGANIZATIONS DO?

We are willing to partner with any organization or company who share the simple vision of a better future with no poverty for all. You can choose to donate directly to this fund here or we can provide alternative options. You can also donate in other means or pick tabs on other things that might be needed.

WHERE WILL THIS BE BUILT?

We intend to engage with authorities to be granted any available land around the area or anywhere where this can be built. Ideally we want a place where the kids will feel they are home, with space to do other projects like gardening, farming etc if possible.

WHO WILL THE PLACE BELONG TO?

Our vision is to help Gogo Nhiwatiwa set up a Trust to run the home and give her assistance she needs to flourish in her God-given calling to help. Citizens Initiative does not intend to be involved beyond providing the home and a decent place, rather we hope the Trust will come up with ways and means to become a perpetual entity that helps other kids and is sustainable.
